POPES LETTERS Among the treasures of the Parchments' Collection there are letters issued by the superiors of the Roman Catholic Church: twenty papal bullas, ten briefs and two letters issued by institutions of the Catholic Church. The oldest document in this group was written in 1477 and the most recent one in 1899. Most of the bullas and briefs were issued to dioceses of Benevent, Milet, Perugia, Parma and other regions in Italy. These are letters of appointment for the archdeacon's and canon's offices, appointments to benefices (F101-42, 46, 47, 60, 92, 96, 99, 100, 105, 115, 128, 130, 131, 132, 133), letters of foundation of churches and chapels (F101-9,109, 123), sanctions for marriage (F101-45, 111, 117), calls for the payment of taxes (F101-47) and a letter concerning the transfer of the real property of the church (F101-129). Three bullas and three briefs were issued to the diocese of Vilnius and the Žemaitian diocese, Lithuania. These are an indulgence of Pope Urban VIII issued to the members of the Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph of Žagarė Church (F101-63), decrees of Benedict XIII (F101-95) and Clement XII (F101-97) concerning remission of sin in Rudamina Church and the Church of Holy Trinity in the district of Grodno, the letter of Pius VI (F101-118) granting ecclesiastic privileges to a Kaunas judge Adomas Kosakovskis and two bullas of Leo XIII (F101-134, 135) for a priest of the Žemaitian diocese Antanas Pavilionis concerning remission of sin.
